Meg’s Musings – November 2025

Written by Meg Heffron | Nov 4, 2025 12:00:15 AM

It feels like my October 'Meg’s Musings' was only yesterday, probably because it was the last thing I wrote before a month’s holiday. Fortunately, even when you’re in Italy you can hear about definitive action from the Government on Division 296 (at long last).

If you’re following this issue with interest you’ll have seen our blog at the time here (Division 296 changes at last). To date, there’s no draft legislation or new details other than one of the questions we raised in our blog has been addressed by the Treasurer : the intention is for the tax to apply only to gains that are both realised after 1 July 2026 and accrued from that date onwards. The latter is important as we’ve highlighted in the blog! I’m very much looking forward to seeing some legislation so I can get cracking on some modelling of the new version.

And of course, Division 296 tax isn’t the only big change on the horizon for 2026. At this stage we’re due to see the introduction of Payday Super and new requirements for accountants on AML / CTF.  We definitely won’t be bored.

If you came to our Super Intensive Day, don’t forget the platform is still open if you want to watch recordings of sessions you missed, do assessments for extra CPD or even just download the resources and your CPD certificates. You’ll see that this year you can pick these up as you complete the sessions rather than waiting until you’ve completed everything.

This will be the last edition of our Heffron Highlights newsletter for 2025. Next month we’re celebrating Christmas Heffron-style with our “12 days of Christmas” series of free flowcharts, FAQs, client guides and more. Watch out for lots of new content and make sure you don’t miss out. It will be slightly different this year. To avoid clogging your emails with a new Heffron missive every day, we’ll invite you to watch a special page on our website where new content will be released every day.

If you missed out on our Super Intensive Day events this year, there's still time to purchase the session recordings. Earn up to 17.25 hours of high quality, accredited CPD. Purchase here.
